With all the construction around the Broadview Heights Community Center, you may wonder what is going on. A few local groups have come together to build a youth football field
Southern Hills Youth Football League and Coach Victor Bierman of Secured Pay LLC are donating the costs of the initial construction, field equipment, goal posts, bleachers, paying for installation of the new sod, and costs for electrical and lighting. Both parties are committed to getting the field completed in time for kickoff of the 2009 football season and plan to help the city maintain and upgrade the field in future years.
The Electricians Union Local 38 is donating a scoreboard. Petros Homes is building the concession stand. The City of Broadview Heights has been instrumental in developing the plan for the field and parking, while making sure all parts of the project run smoothly.
Broadview Heights Victory Field, is opening on week one games, Saturday, September 12th, featuring:
-bleachers on both sides of the field
-high-tech lighting system
-playing surface and practice/warm-up area
-scoreboard
-new NFL style gooseneck goalposts
-additional parking for 100+ vehicles
-concession stand
-irrigation and drainage system
Southern Hills Youth Football League is excited to be able to partner with the City of Broadview Heights and make this concept a reality in less than seven months. Southern Hills Youth Football has saved for years with an idea of building a youth football field. Coach Victor Bierman was key in kick-starting this project with a large donation.
Many people have worked hand-in-hand to make this successful, from Mayor Sam Alai, Broadview Heights City Council, City Engineer Gene Esser, Economic Director Dave Schroedel, Ed Tuma and Frank Perri of the Electrician Union Local 38 and volunteers from the Southern Hills Youth Football League and elsewhere. It has been great working with everyone without conflicts, agendas or egos. The only focus was building an incredible field for the kids.
Coach Bierman says, "I have been a player and a coach for over 15 years and I have always believed that teaching youth through football is a great way to positively influence them both on the field and in everyday life. Hopefully this youth football field project provides all of us an even better opportunity to teach and develop the youth in our local community for many years to come".
Playing fields for youth sports is at a premium, especially in football. The new field and practice area will give youths a quality place to practice and play.
As a completely volunteer, non-profit organization, Southern Hills Youth Football has been determined to help get Victory Field off the ground.
Saturday, September 19th is Homecoming Weekend at Victory Field, featuring youth football games throughout the day and evening, food, prizes, raffles and games for the whole family.
High visibility advertising is available for corporate sponsors. Their names will be featured on the scoreboard, website, the Founder's Plaque, etc.
Please feel free to offer any help or ideas. Contacts for commissioners can be found at our website at www.southernhillsfootball.com.
